“I was diagnosed when I was fourteen years old with cone dystrophy, and what that means is that my cones don’t really work like most peoples’ do, so any time I’m exposed to lights I go blind. People really are curious and they really wanna know why I’m always wearing sunglasses, and sometimes they do make assumptions. But I just wish some days they’d get to know Maria a little bit and see me under my sunglasses.”
